Three-Year Diploma in Teaching
The College offers training for the Three-Year Diploma programme in Teaching. There are three levels of Teacher Preparation:
General entry requirements are five (5) subjects, including English Language at the CXC General Proficiency Level, Grade I or II (or Grade III obtained in 1998 and since), or subjects at the GCE 'O' level, Grade A, B, or C. Equivalent qualifications are accepted.
Students applying for the Early Childhood Education programme should include Mathematics as a General Entry Requirement. Preference will be given to applicants with passes in any one or more of the following:
A Science subject, Religious Education, Social Studies, History, and Visual Arts.
Students applying for the Primary Spanish programme should include Spanish at grade 1 or 2 as a General Entry Requirement.
Male applicants are now being admitted to Shortwood Teachers' College.
Students applying for a Secondary Education programme must have obtained a grade I or II at the CXC General Proficiency level or Grade A or B at GCE, in the areas in which they wish to specialize and three more passes. Select one of the following options:
Students with passes in A level subjects in the options in which they wish to specialize may be given exemptions where applicable.
